UMI TOUCH X Introduction

UMI is a newly Chinese smartphone manufacturer, and they released some models in the year 2015. Recently they announced the UMI Touch series model, and the UMI Touch X model will be started to sale on 15th May. UMI Touch X can be considered as another good budget deal smartphone.

Performance & Storage

UMI Touch X has 1.3 GHz processor speed with 64 bit MT6735A quad-core. The GPU is Mail T720. The RAM is 2GB and internal storage is 16GB like many other Chinese midrange phone brands. You could choose to expand up to 128 GB for internal storage. UMI Touch X uses dual SIM and dual standby, and can fit Android 6.0 Marshmallow system like the majority of new phones in the year 2016. Overall UMI Touch X runs smoothly for gaming or multitask apps during our test.

Design & Screen

The phone weights 189g, has full metal build material, and around 94% CNC Cut aluminum edge-to-edge design. Such design style is similar to Elephone S3. Curvature of UMI Touch X provides users slim and comfortable feeling in hands. The screen is 5.5 inches based on LTPS technology with 2.5D arc technology and Corning Gorilla glass. UMI Touch X has 1920*1080 Full HD screen resolution display.  You could see its CNC cutting metal frame between its front shell and metal back cover. Like other mid-price level smartphones, PPS material of UMI Touch X is used as a signal on its back cover. The three capacitive buttons can work as a finger point sensor.

We also noticed there is no bezel on both sides of the phone, so may makes UMI Touch X seems sleek. Compared to other non-bezel smartphone brands like Elephone p9000 or ZTE Nubia Z9, UMI Touch X is cheaper and also may become the first brand to release such non-bezel type in the market.

Battery & Connectivity

Battery capacity is 4,000 mAah and non-removable, so can be used for 24 hours for 4G surfing, or around 90 hours for music play, or 60hours calling time based on 2G network, or about two weeks standby time. The phone can fit 2G, 3G or 4G network. Bluetooth connection is 4.1 and GPS, or A-GPS can be used. We found the internet connection speed is quite impressive during test. When in 3G condition UMI Touch X can go around 2.7Mbps, and around 150Mbps in 4G network.

Camera

The camera has LED light function so enables to take photos at night or darkness environment with no normal blur. Front one is 2MP, and the back one is 8MP based on Sony IMX 219 sensor. Compared to many other smartphones with 13 MP rear camera, UMI Touch X also input the dual flash functions, so this can be considered as an improvement. What’s more, both the front and rear one can be optimized up to 5MP and 13MP respectively by using software, so makes UMI Touch X model as a valuable deal for its $120 cheap price level.
